Dementia can be a distressing and uncomfortable diagnosis for both the individual and their family. Often, the family know that something isn't quite right before a diagnosis is given - early signs of dementia may have been evident months or even years before a GP or other health professional suggests dementia may be the problem. Family members can then find themselves being gradually removed from the role of a husband or wife, son or daughter and being given a label of their own - “carer”.

Talkdementia.org is a Speech & Language Therapy service for people with dementia and their families. I offer assessment, therapy, support and advice relating to difficulties with:

A communcation assessment can also provide valuable support for determining mental capacity (Mental Capacity Act 2005) and arrangements under Power of Attorney and Enduring Power of Attorney.

I also offer assessment and advice for people who have eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) as a result of their dementia.
